Why implement a dress code?

I don’t understand why my company insists on implementing a dress code. It’s not as if I wouldn’t be able to carry out my duties if I were wearing rubber shoes instead of leather shoes. It’s not as if I would speak better English if I were in slacks instead of jeans. It’s not as if the customer on the other end of the line would sense if my shirt had a collar or if it had the lowly round-neck.

And most importantly, it’s not as if having to change into slacks and leather shoes before heading for work would help me get to work on time.

It simply does not make sense. Until it does, I’d be the same employee I have been all this time —- almost always late for work, clad in lowly jeans and crappy shoes, but bringing food to the table.
