How Tumblr can make me forget about Posterous

I’m getting excited about blogging again, thanks to newly-discovered express-blogging services that make blogging easier than it has ever been. I have decided to abandon Multiply completely and have been spending less time on Twitter as a result.

I am both on Tumblr and Posterous, and I can’t seem to let go of either one of them. But right now, I am more inclined to stick to Tumblr because the three or four people I know who are also starting with this whole microblogging thing will probably not give Posterous a second look, mostly because of Posterous’s lack of customization options (which are coming soon, by the way).

However, as much as I enjoy looking at my tumbleblog, there are times when I can’t help feeling like I’m missing out on some great stuff by not sticking to Posterous. And here are the ways Tumblr can help change that.

1. Tumblr has to have comments out of the box. I will say it over and over again. I don’t care if Disqus is the best commenting platform in the entire bloggyverse. Disqus is a hassle for newbies, and I don’t see how Tumblr can be harmed by comments. Posterous has comments built-in, and any person can comment by logging in to Twitter, Facebook, or Posterous itself. If the Tumblr guys really like Disqus (and they do promote Disqus for comment-seekers) and can’t concoct a good home-brewed alternative, they should at least pre-install Disqus on tumbleblogs.

2. Tumblr needs to do a better job at email. Email is Posterous’s turf - in fact, Posterous IS email. But that doesnt mean Tumblr can’t improve on email too. So what if Posterous did it first? Tumblebloggers can only benefit from an improved email experience. Make the addresses easy to remember, and by that, I mean post@posterous.com instead of cwnd754@tumblr.com. And support formatted text in emailed posts! Tumblr doesn’t even recognize line breaks (enters) in emails.

3. Photo albums have to look better. While Tumblr’s slideshow implementation does provide a lot of eye candy, it is NO MATCH to Posterous’s photo gallery solution, which looks nicer, is more functional and makes for easier navigation. Head over to http://posterous.com/faq to see what I mean.

4. All posts should have a title. When you upload a single photo in Tumblr, you can give it a caption but NOT a title. If you upload multiple photos, you can give each photo a caption and give the post a title. And I hear that audio posts don’t get to have titles too. Some posts have titles, some don’t, and it doesn’t look good. At least make it an option, please.

5. Scrap the tumblarity. I’m so over Plurk’s karma. We don’t need another reminder of how unpopular we are.

I’m not trying to be nitpicky. Posterous may be a newcomer, but it is really gaining momentum, and if Tumblr can’t get around to fixing these things, I might one day switch to Posterous for good (could be the day themes get rolled out on Posterous).

Text messages on the iPhone look fun. Harry Potter factor unintended.

Tumblr’s logo looks a lot like Facebook’s logo reflected downwards. And it also resembles the Twitter logo. I think they need to change it. My suggestion: put the t in a tumbler!

Why doesn’t Tumblr have a built-in commenting system?

Does Tumblr enjoy seeing total noobs trying to figure out how to edit HTML? Disqus is a hassle. Tumblr should come with comments out of the box, and make Disqus an option.

This will be my last Multiply post (unless my professors make me post anything again). ***About the Indonesia reference: Multiply is doing well in Indonesia. Right now, one-fifth of Multiply’s members are Indonesians.

Why implement a dress code?

I don’t understand why my company insists on implementing a dress code. It’s not as if I wouldn’t be able to carry out my duties if I were wearing rubber shoes instead of leather shoes. It’s not as if I would speak better English if I were in slacks instead of jeans. It’s not as if the customer on the other end of the line would sense if my shirt had a collar or if it had the lowly round-neck.

And most importantly, it’s not as if having to change into slacks and leather shoes before heading for work would help me get to work on time.

It simply does not make sense. Until it does, I’d be the same employee I have been all this time —- almost always late for work, clad in lowly jeans and crappy shoes, but bringing food to the table.

I did it again, after a long, long time. And by it, I don’t mean cheat. I mean something else.

Sometimes, things catch up on me

I’m skipping class as I speak, the Powerpoint presentation is as lame as lame can be, and I haven’t touched a single page of the readings for this afternoon’s exam.  To top it all off, I haven’t had a wink of sleep. Yeah, things can catch up on me sometimes. Good thing I own www.crammr.tumblr.com. Maybe I should post this there.

I can’t believe Switch at TechnoHub hasn’t gone bankrupt yet

They’re still open! I can’t believe it. Is Switch still hoping the store would make money? People who want iPods would not likely go to TechnoHub, let alone people who want Macbooks.

I did not take this picture, by the way. Got this off the net. (I know they don’t allow picture-taking in the store.)

Facebook is now #3 in the Philippines

Last time I checked, Facebook was the fourth most visited site in the Philippines. Now, if you head over to Alexa, you’d see that Facebook has moved up one notch to become the third most visited site in the Philippines, moving past Google Philippines, which is now at fourth place. This makes Facebook as close as it has ever been to overtake Friendster, which currently sits on the second spot. Till this day, Filipinos represent Friendster’s last hope. I am certain that is about to change though - all the trends say so.

I don’t know, but I am watching this closely. And by this, I mean Friendster’s impending death. Maybe I want to know how it would feel like. Maybe I should just wait and see.

This is the largest Ministop branch I have ever seen - the TechnoHub branch. Pardon the bad photo, this was taken using my crappy E51.

So am I never going to enjoy work? :-) Kidding. (I’m knocking on wood.)

Johnson&Johnson claimed that all one would have to do was (1) spray, (2) wait 60 seconds, then (3) rinse or wipe off. Not true. I would not recommend this at all.

I’m not going jogging this morning. Cancelled out on housemate at the last minute. I just don’t think that staying up all night and then going jogging afterwards is healthy.

That makes this week a zero-jogging week. Hmm. Maybe on Monday?
